Frequently Asked Questions
Paragliding is often referred to as the “purest” form of flight. Paragliders are foot launched , have no rigid structure or motor. They majestically use thermic currents or ocean sea breezes to gain altitude and perform free flight. A tandem paraglider is simply a larger wing certified to carry two people.
The pilot & passenger sit securely in a comfortable chair like harness allowing uninterrupted 360 degree views.
No training is required to fly as passenger on a tandem paraglider, however you will receive a briefing prior to launch where the pilot will talk you through the simple launching and landing procedure. After three or four steps you are free to sit back and enjoy the flight. If conditions permit you may be invited to take the controls and fly the glider yourself.
Should you wish to fly a paraglider solo then you must successfully complete a SAFA approved PG2 Paragliding course or be under the instruction of a certified SAFA approved Instructor.

Byron Paragliding offer tandem flights to passengers of all ages, nationalities & backgrounds including those with disabilities. There are however some minimal requirements outlined below.
- Passengers must be over the age of 10
- Passengers must weigh between 30-100 Kg
- Passengers must be able to walk/jog 4-5 steps for take off.
Should you fall outside these minimum requirements, please call to discuss as we may still be able to accommodate any limitations.

Booking confirmation and receipt will be forwarded to your email address. Simply click on the link provided to select your preferred date range. Should your flight need rescheduling due to weather conditions, your pilot will contact you directly.
Our Paragliding sites are flyable all year round, however are subject to certain meteorological conditions such as wind speed and direction in order to fly.

45 mins from Gold Coast
Byron Bay and the Northern Rivers region is just a 45 minute drive south along the Pacific highway. Byron Paragliding launch sites are situated between Mullumbimby and Lennox Head.
20 mins Tweed Heads
Our Paragliding sites commence just 20 minutes south of Tweed Heads from the iconic township of Mullumbimby. Further south past Brunswick heads we have sites at Byron and Lennox Head.
45 mins from Clarence Region
Byron Paragliding sites are just 45 minutes drive north from the Clarence River region, and are easily accessible from Yamba, Iluka and lismore areas .
